MoP Beta - Current Non-Tradable Pets

I'm not sure if this is a bug, something that will change, or what, but currently the Blizzard PetStore pets are not cage-able on the beta. This is curious because in a recent Q&A, developers mentioned that they plan on allowing the caging and trade of the PetStore companions. I wonder if they've had a change of heart?

The TCG and even "no longer available" pets are all cage-able (for now), but the Blizzcon and CE pets (including the SC2 CE pet) are not.

Here's a list of pets that I've found are currently NOT tradable on the beta (I don't have access to the WoW CE pets, so I can't say for sure whether or not those are tradable, but I'm guessing they are not):
Cenarion Hatchling
Deathy
Grunty
Gryphon Hatchling
Lil' Ragnaros
Lil' K.T.
Lil' XT
Mini Thor
Moonkin Hatchling
Murkablo
Pandaren Monk
Soul of the Aspects
Wind Rider Cub
I don't expect this to be the final list, and developers could change their mind at any time. Things will probably continue to change and shift around as more testing goes on, so we'll just have to sit tight and wait to see what the final list of cage-able/tradable pets will be in MoP.

Still, it's a bit strange. Maybe the pets listed above require special coding to make them cage-able? Or perhaps they're just really stubborn and don't like being cooped up in a cage. :P

  1. The reason those pets are not cagable is probably because they either come from special events (like Grunty being a reward for buying a ticket for Blizzcon 2009) or are bought from the Blizzard Store (like the Gryphon Hatchling, Lil' Ragnaros etc.).

    1. @Maddy: Being unable to trade the Blizzcon and Collector's Edition pets does not surprise me. What's odd are the PetStore pets being un-cage-able.

      From a recent developer Q&A -
Q: Will there be any rules about pet trading? Will we be able to trade pets of limited editions (like Panda Cub) or Blizzard Store pets (like Wind Rider Cub)? How about achievement pets?

A: We plan to allow players to trade Blizzard Store pets excluding Guardian Cub (because it's not BoP and it's unique). Collector's edition and other limited edition pets (like Mini Tyrael or BlizzCon pets) will not be tradable, either.

  2. I wonder if it's to do with these pets being mailed to each new character you create. So you could cage it, sell it, and then make an another character to get it again.

    1. @Kintarah: That's definitely a possibility. Blizzard probably doesn't want the market to be flooded, but then again they could just change their policy and not send future toons the same pets.
