The Look-a-Like Challenge - Part 10

Finally, a new look-a-like post and it's the first one for WoD. Yay! Hopefully not the last; I hope there will be more pets in the future that look like things that I can copy/replicate with my toon. :)

I could have posted an update earlier but I wanted to squeeze in the Clockwork Gnome. That required reaching the 150 toys achievement, and that took what felt like for-ev-er. Thankfully I managed to power through collecting the last few yesterday night.

BlizzCon 2015 Dates - What's The Pet?!

Blizzard just announced the BlizzCon 2015 dates; Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2015. Tickets don't go on sale until Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. PT and Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. PT, and Virtual Tickets will likely be available shortly after that.

Naturally, the first thing that came to mind when I read the announcement, WHAT IS THIS YEAR'S PET?!

We can speculate a few possibilities: Overwatch-themed pet, Heroes of the Storm-themed pet, or possibly another WoW/Draenor/Burning Legion-themed pet. Or perhaps the special gift won't even be a pet this year (I'd be disappointed if that's the case).

Personally, I'm leaning towards and Overwatch or Heroes of the Storm pet, even though I can't think of any good murloc + character combinations. But IF either of those two franchises takes center stage at BlizzCon this year, I'm sure they'll come up with something awesome and creative.

The probability of a non-WoW franchise WoW pet (lol what a mouthful) is decent, I'd say. There were three other non-WoW-themed pets from previous conventions: Grunty (Starcraft themed 2009), Murkablo (Diablo themed 2011), and Murkalot (Diablo themed 2013). And of course, the very first baby murloc pet, Murky, was not themed at all, but hoping for a re-release of that little guy is like hoping for wings to instantly sprout out of a pig's back, allowing it to fly away.

If this year's pet isn't a murloc + character mash-up, I'd be ok with that. I'm very open minded about pets, and I'll accept any into my critter army. But with Blizzard's track record, a non-murloc-themed pet is unlikely. It's kind of become tradition for BlizzCon, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Some probably have grown tired of it, of course. And I have to admit that unless the murloc-theme combo is really awesome and creative, it's not quite as exciting anymore. That isn't to say that I won't collect and adore the pet, though. I totally will!

Anyway, I'm excited to find out what the pet will be (if it is a pet!) this year, and whether or not I'll be able to attend the convention in person. I'm not sure just yet, but I'll need to decide before April if I want to jump on BlizzCon tickets. With my luck I won't be able to score two tickets for myself and the OH (like last year), and I'll just say screw it and buy the Virtual Ticket. Not that I'm complaining. Watching the show from home does have it's perks. ;)

Race MiniZep Available Starting Next Month

I was looking forward to the Darkmoon Faire this month; new toys and a new pet was added in 6.1. Turns out that I'll need to wait until next month for the Race MiniZep though.

The racing mini-game at the faire is somewhat unique in that its content has a staggered release. This month it's phase 1, and you can earn the "tier one" achievements (The Real Race). Next month will be phase 2, which will include more racing features and mechanics. Only then will it be possible to complete the next tier of achievements (The Real Big Race).

After that there are two more months of "new" racing content, according to Blizzard's DMF release schedule.

  • March: ‘The Real Race’, including the Racing Strider racer and a set of achievements with rewards.
  • April: ‘The Real Big Race’, including a new Rocketeer racer, more boosts and race buffs, and new achievements for beating the The Real Big Race with both racers.
  • May: A new Wanderluster racer, new achievements for beating both races with the Wanderluster, and rewards.
  • June: A new Powermonger racer, new achievements for beating both races with the Powermonger, and rewards.

It's interesting to see Blizzard extending content in such a way, although an earlier heads up on how this whole thing works would have been appreciated. I wouldn't say more forewarning would have saved me time and headache, since I still went for this month's racing achievements anyway, but a better understanding ahead of time of the staggered release would have made it less confusing. For a while on the PTR I thought I was missing something, and it had me slightly worried that I would miss out completely once the 6.1 DMF went live.

Anyway, glad to see that that's cleared up. Now if only the lag would clear up on the Darkmoon Island. The lag really makes completing the achievements frustrating. From objects not loading in properly, to buffs/mechanics not triggering... let's just say I spent a lot of time swearing at my game while attempting the race and other DMF games for the toy rewards lol.

Well, here's hoping next month's faire is less laggy! Looking forward to a new pet to collect either way :)
