doing what i usually do when there's news of possible new pets just over the horizon, i headed over to wowhead's PTR site to check out what i could find.
some interesting uncategorized spells:
- Toxic Wasteling Passive
- Toxic Wasteling Grow
- Toxic Wasteling Find Target
- Toxic Wasteling Devour
- Toxic Wasteling Attack
this is huge news for me, because of all my days of pet collecting, i've been dreaming about a vanity pet that did more than idle about and follow me around. sure, there are pets such as the scorchling and willy who will occasionally (if in the mood) strike down any critter close enough to it. but oh, to have a pet that may EAT a critter (or pet!) and then GROW!
needless to say, i'm excited to see if this goes live or not, and just what the animation will look like (if any at all). how the toxic wasteling will be obtained? still no clue. you can definitely count on me going out of my way to get it though :)
Perky Pug
the next 3.3 pet that's been absolutely the TALK of the town (or pet collecting community), is the perky pug. let's just say i have mixed feelings about this pet.
there is still no confirmation for which achievement this pet will be rewarded. yes, blizzard has already confirmed that by using their new random dungeon system, the more random people you group with, the faster you will receive this pet. however, i'm more of a 'be less vague, more specific' type of person.
currently, for 3.3, there are the following achievements tied to the new dungeon grouping system:
- Looking For More - Use the Dungeon tool to finish random heroic dungeons until you have grouped with 10 random players total. (rewards: ?? or none)
- Looking For Many - Use the Dungeon tool to finish random heroic dungeons until you have grouped with 50 random players total. (rewards: Title: the Patient)
- Looking For Multitudes - Use the Dungeon tool to finish random heroic dungeons until you have grouped with 100 random players total. (rewards: ?? or none)
i hate to nit-pick the achievements, but i'd like to point out that each tier specifically states "Use the Dungeon tool to finish random heroic dungeons." according to blizzard's definition of 'finishing', a heroic instance is not complete until the "final boss [is] killed". this could lead to some headache for pet collectors who are already dreading the pug-fest in 3.3.
pugs are generally.. pugs. should the group fail at completing (aka: final boss killed) the heroic dungeon, it's really no sweat off of anyone's back, except those that are attempting to get the achievement and/or pet (and those who are still attempting to get that last piece they need to drop off the last boss).
luckily, blizzard has made it easier to retry and retry and retry again. as long as you use the random dungeon system, you will be able to redo heroic instances many times in one day. so fear not, pet enthusiasts, even if one pug fails, you won't be locked out of that heroic for the rest of the day, and you WILL have another chance.
so let's see some hard numbers for the perky pug, shall we?
assuming that it will be awarded for the highest tier achievement, if you're going at it alone, you will need to group with 4 completely different people at least 25 times. and this is not including the possible fail runs and the potential to get grouped with the same pug(s) more than once. so at the very least, you will need to find a group for a random dungeon 25 times. at least.
should you want to do this with a buddy, it will take more runs. then again, having a friend or guildmate that you know has the ability to play well may mean less fail runs.
whew. this post turned out to be longer than i had intended. i'll end it with a hope that whatever pets go live in 3.3, they're awesome and not a complete bitch and a half to obtain.
